How not to boost tourism in your country

It has been a dream of mine for quite some time to visit Iran. I had always assumed that this would be out of the question in reality – the word ‘Iran’ hardly conjures up an image of safety and stability for British travellers – at least until diplomatic relations between Iran and the West improved. After all, the British Foreign Office officially advises against all but essential travel to Iran, and they are supposed to know what they’re talking about. However, events at the start of this year encouraged me to start to think again about whether an Iranian adventure was as impossible as I had originally thought. (more…)
